Tracers

“...red and orange tracers poked the terrain from every angle like heated needles and snipers sidled through the shadows.  Luftwaffe pilots dropped strings of butterfly bombs, anti-personnel explosives with yellow wings that revolved to arm the detonator.  They ‘floated to earth like colored lanterns strung in a row,’ one soldier noted.  ‘It was beautiful and uncomfortable.’”
